Windjammers and Sea Tramps is a book written by Walter Runciman and first published in 1905. The book is a collection of stories and accounts of the author's experiences as a sailor on board various windjammers and tramp steamers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Runciman takes the reader on a journey through the rough and tumble world of seafaring, sharing his personal experiences of life on board these ships. He describes the different types of vessels, the men who crewed them, and the challenges they faced while navigating the high seas. The book is divided into several chapters, each focusing on a different aspect of life at sea. Runciman covers topics such as the dangers of storms and shipwrecks, the excitement of navigating through treacherous waters, and the camaraderie that develops among sailors. He also delves into the seafaring culture of the time, including the superstitions and beliefs that were prevalent among sailors. Windjammers and Sea Tramps is a fascinating and vivid account of life on the high seas during a time when sailing ships were being replaced by steamers. Runciman's writing style is engaging and descriptive, and he brings to life the sights, sounds, and smells of the sea. The book is a must-read for anyone interested in maritime history or the adventures of seafarers. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
