In Volume I of Calling in the Hope Spirit, Todd Chaster enters the wilderness carrying real-life questions, family relationships, disappointments, hopes, and a desire to discover what it actually means to walk with Jesus.
This is not the story of someone who has mastered faith. It is the story of someone learning it.
Through twelve deeply personal chapters, Todd reflects on calling upon the Hope Spirit, learning to walk with Jesus, practicing holy obedience, wrestling with God, navigating faith and family, confronting failure, recognizing grace in ordinary life, and learning the difference between looking for signs and practicing genuine discernment.
His mother becomes an important companion on the journey. Their relationship reminds him that loving someone does not mean controlling their beliefs, that disagreement does not have to mean abandonment, and that sometimes the people closest to us become unexpected teachers.
Along the way, gardens, rivers, wilderness roads, prayer, Scripture, friendship, mistakes, reconciliation, and everyday experiences become places where faith is tested and strengthened.
But Wilderness does not end by pretending the journey is complete.
Todd discovers that unfinished does not mean unsuccessful. Faith is not about having every answer, never falling, or seeing the entire road ahead. Sometimes it is simply about having enough light for the next faithful step.
Each chapter concludes with a Wilderness Practice and Prayer for the Road, inviting readers to bring the journey into their own lives. The book also includes a 40-Day Wilderness Companion for continued reflection, examination, prayer, and spiritual growth.
Honest, hopeful, occasionally humorous, and rooted in Christian faith, Wilderness is for anyone who has questioned, struggled, started again, or wondered whether God was still present somewhere along the road.
