In the deep, oppressive heart of the American South, where knowledge is forbidden and silence is survival, one man dares to ask the questions that could cost him his life.

But when Bell dies, Wilbert is left alone with a dangerous mission: to awaken the minds of the enslaved and dismantle the system from within. Risking torture and death, Wilbert builds an underground network of education and rebellion, teaching over a hundred slaves to read, think, and fight back. As his legend spreads, so does the fear among plantation owners.
