Why the Black Man Cries is a book written by KalecianaPerry that recounts the experiences of Black people throughout history, particularly during slavery and contemporary times. Perry writes about her personal journey to understand her own history and heritage, which began with watching the movie 12 Years a Slave and researching the history of Black people. The author writes about the pain and hurt she felt while learning about the beatings, rapes, and lynching of Black people at the hands of white people. She says that she was moved to write this book to give a voice to those who have been silenced and to be a part of the fight for Black lives. The book is written due to her prayers for guidance and her belief that her gift of writing is meant to be shared with others. Perry hopes that her words will speak for all Black people and show their solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
