Aneurin Bevan is famous as the Labour government minister who founded the National Health Service, which has been serving the nation since 1948. Four years earlier, Bevan published Why Not Trust the Tories? This was a brilliant critique of the Conservative Party, largely drawn from Bevan's observations across quarter of a century in politics. Inspired by Bevan's 1944 book, Andrew Godsell has written a work with the same title. Here is an analysis of the Conservatives, from the formation of the party in 1830, to the calamity of Boris Johnson's current Tory government.
