Jon Hisey readily admits that his lifelong adventures and business accomplishments are the result of a combination of fate and luck. With a predisposition for history, he was an eyewitness to significant generational events. He was, 'not motivated by money. It was mortality.'
His memoir will serve as a legacy to his family. He was twenty-four years old when he took control of his father's family failing weekly newspaper - The Wayne Dispatch - becoming one of the youngest publisher/managing editors in the Michigan Press Association. It started the life of a self-motivated businessman and a curious world traveler.
In 1969 Jon and his wife Carol opened their first business, an office supply store with their life savings of $500 in Wayne, Michigan. In his words, ...for the rest of our lives every nickel, every dollar was generated by initiative, ingenuity, hard work, fate and luck.
Jon's unique homes and businesses include Charlevoix landmarks like the iconic Edgewater Inn, Harbour Club, Harbor Plaza, the Charlevoix Country Club, Cottage Pointe, and the Weathervane Restaurant and one of the founders of the Charlevoix Country Club. All bear Hisey's fingerprints as do projects in Harbor Springs and Petoskey.
