Caleb Delos-Santos's poems uncover hidden streams of delight as they move from the peace of rare rains in California and Arizona, snow in Colorado, and a startling elegy to pencils, to the healing found in sharing nonsense, empty Diet Coke bottles that look like substitutes in shoes for the poet's ankles, and memories of waiting that lead to love and connection. His rhymes (even adjectives sometimes rhyme here) overflow with the surprises that can lead us to observe and discover.
-Thomas Allbaugh, author of The View from January
Caleb Delos-Santos's newest book of poetry, When Will You Water Me?, flows with life, as he helps the reader experience water and the world in new ways. He celebrates and probes the liquid beams as they fall on streets, sidewalks, plants, and people. Whether he is describing a young man's full and sometimes anxious days or tracing water droplets through creeks, geysers, toilets, and sewers, the poet views the world with a sense of wonder but also at times with a hard, realistic gaze. Readers will easily relate to the yearning and beauty in these verses.
-Joseph Bentz, author of A Son Comes Home and Nothing is Wasted
This book beautifully captures the transformative and dynamic nature of rain, highlighting its impact on the world around us. All the poems reveal the true feelings of the poet composed in colloquial diction. We do not find in these poems any type of mannerism, artificialities of emotion and phrases. Some of these poems with fervent feelings, written with profound imaginative power, are intense lyrics of immediate personal response.
