At 1:00 AM, while Siddavatam sleeps, a journey of faith begins.
Around roaring fires, families prepare annadhanam for pilgrims traveling to Narrawada Vengamamba. By dawn, the food is loaded into autos, a scooter named Destini starts its journey, and the road leads through the misty landscapes of Lankamalla and Badvel toward Narrawada.
What begins as a pilgrimage soon becomes an unforgettable experience.
Hundreds of food packets prepared through the night disappear into the hands of waiting devotees within minutes. The journey then leads to the sacred temple, the intense flames of the Nithya Agnigundam, the hilltop Vengamamba statue, and breathtaking views over the village.
As darkness falls, Narrawada reveals another side of itself-a vibrant jathara filled with lights, music, crowds, laughter, and a giant wheel carrying five friends above the festival.
Then, near midnight, the music falls silent.
Fireworks fill the sky.
The golden Radham begins its procession.
In that powerful moment, service, exhaustion, friendship, celebration, tradition, and devotion come together.
WHEN THE MOTHER CALLED is a personal journey through faith, service, culture, and devotion to Narrawada Vengamamba. It is also a reflection on the distinct devotional traditions surrounding Narrawada Vengamamba and Tarigonda Vengamamba, while honoring the difference between historical record and living local tradition.
This is more than a journey to a destination.
It is a story about what the road teaches us, what devotion awakens within us, and how an experience can change the person who began it.
Sometimes we think we are searching for something.
Only later do we understand that the journey itself was searching for us.
