When Love Calls is a novel written by Stanley John Weyman and first published in 1899. The story is set in France during the 17th century and follows the life of a young man named Franois de Lescarbot. Franois is the son of a nobleman and is sent to Paris to pursue his studies. However, he soon falls in love with a beautiful woman named Isabelle de Montigny and decides to abandon his studies to be with her.Their love affair is cut short when Franois is falsely accused of a crime and forced to flee Paris. He becomes a soldier and fights in the Franco-Dutch War, where he meets a mysterious woman named Madame de Maintenon. Franois eventually returns to Paris and reunites with Isabelle, but their happiness is short-lived as they are once again separated by political upheaval.Throughout the novel, Weyman explores the themes of love, loyalty, and betrayal. The story is filled with action, romance, and intrigue, and provides a vivid depiction of life in 17th-century France. When Love Calls is considered one of Weyman's most popular works and is a must-read for fans of historical fiction. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
