What Is Calvinism? Or The Confession Of Faith, In Harmony With The Bible And Common Sense is a book written by William D. Smith in 1854. The book aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of Calvinism, a branch of Protestantism that emphasizes the sovereignty of God and the doctrine of predestination. Smith's work is divided into four parts, each of which explores a different aspect of Calvinism. The first part provides an overview of the history of Calvinism, tracing its origins to John Calvin and the Reformation. The second part delves into the key tenets of Calvinism, such as the doctrine of total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and perseverance of the saints. The third part of the book examines the relationship between Calvinism and the Bible, arguing that Calvinism is in harmony with the teachings of scripture. The final part of the book addresses common objections to Calvinism and provides responses to these criticisms. Throughout the book, Smith emphasizes the importance of common sense and reason in understanding Calvinism. He argues that Calvinism is not a rigid, dogmatic system, but rather a flexible and adaptable approach to theology that can be applied to a wide range of religious and philosophical questions. Overall, What Is Calvinism? Or The Confession Of Faith, In Harmony With The Bible And Common Sense is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to understand the principles and practices of Calvinism, and the role it has played in shaping the history of Christianity.Dialogues Between A Presbyterian Minister And A Young Convert. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
