In Welcome, Mac, to the Family!, everyone is excited about news of a new baby on the way, especially big brother John. But baby Mac is born a little early and must stay in the hospital a little longer. John learns how care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) helps Mac grow bigger and stronger, and after patiently waiting a few weeks, the whole family joyfully welcomes baby Mac home.
Each of Joan's heartwarming books has earned the prestigious Mom's Choice GOLD award for excellence in children's literature!
Praise for the Book:
As a Pediatrician, I work with many families whose newborns need care in the hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This story is a wonderful resource for families seeking support and courage while awaiting the day their new baby comes home. Steven Kairys, MD, MPH, Professor of Pediatrics, Hackensack Meridian Health System
Industry Acclaim:
The illustrations in this book are the culmination of two years of experimentation, iteration, and digital storytelling. Being one of the first children's books showcasing photo-realistic people vs. cartoon figures, it features fully illustrated characters modeled after the author's own family. It's a visual achievement that wouldn't have been possible a year ago. USA Today, April 30, 2025
