Money arrives late.
Authority insists it still counts.
Men begin to measure something else.
The Weight of Time - Late Money is a historical novel about how power actually collapses-not through rebellion or defeat, but through procedure that no longer binds belief.
Set in the age of Alexander, the novel follows Nikandros, a mercenary commander whose loyalty has always been priced in silver, and Artavardiya, a Persian imperial accounts clerk whose faith rests in sequence, measure, and record. At first, the system still works: payments are delayed but trusted, seals still command obedience, waiting still has value.
Then time begins to slip.
Delays become authorized.
Exactness becomes close enough.
Provision replaces settlement.
Speed begins to compete with correctness.
When Alexander's agents introduce immediate payment-same silver, same weight, no promises-the old order is not challenged. It is bypassed. Loyalty shortens. Contracts hollow out. Authority migrates from institutions to individuals, and responsibility concentrates where systems once absorbed it.
Battles are fought without heroics.
The dead are counted after payment.
And by the end, nothing collapses loudly.
The ledger simply empties.
Written in precise, restrained prose, The Weight of Time is not a story about war, but about late authority-about what happens when systems continue to function after belief has left them behind. It is a novel about money as time, speed as power, and the quiet moment when obligation turns into choice.
No speeches.
No betrayals.
Only settlement.
