Overview: A Rare Aquatic Marsupial
Unlike most marsupials, which are generally terrestrial or arboreal, the water opossum is specially adapted to live in and around water.
It is the only marsupial in the Americas that is fully aquatic, spending much of its life swimming, hunting, and even raising its young in an environment dominated by water. Its range extends from southern Mexico through Central America and down into much of northern and central South America, including countries such as Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, and Peru.
