Elly works in a mixed veterinary practice based in the beautiful South Hams, in South Devon. She has waited years to be able to fulfil her dream of becoming a Registered Equine Veterinary Nurse, a qualification that never previously existed until recently.
Along her journey she acquires a unique job which takes her off the beaten track, dealing with all species from hedgehogs to humans, but fulfils her passion for radiography. The book is based around an orphan thoroughbred foal which couldn't stand at birth, and was gifted to her by the stud farm and racing yard who were unable to give the foal the intensive care it needed to survive.
Together with her journalist friend Lilly, they work hard to attempt to get the foal to stand unaided by splints, which the well-bred filly was fast growing out of. Elly also has to make a choice between her leisure time of sailing and horse-racing, both of which she has been given the opportunity to enjoy immensely, and one which could boost her career path even further.
