The story is placed in the 1970s in the new capital of Brasilia, and involves mostly gay and lesbian characters struggling to build a life in the socially barren but growing city. It has many turns of plot involving betrayal, reconciliation, outings and frustration, as well as moments of great beauty. It is told in the voices of four first-person narrators, the main characters, who alternate in telling the story from different points of view. The Brazilian writer and critic Antonio Callado has said: Vanishing Point is a modern, skeptical novel. It is, above all-and this is what matters, what deserves awards-very well written. Ron Kienzle said: ... Once I started, I couldn't put it down I was completely wrapped in the prose. I've not read anything like it for a long time. Maybe since Catcher in the Rye. I can't quite identify the style but it's reminiscent of Salinger/Hemingway/Lawrence.
