Visitations of English Cluniac Foundations is a historical book by George Floyd Duckett that explores the religious order of Cluniac monks in England. The Cluniac order was one of the largest and most influential monastic orders in medieval Europe, and this book examines their presence and impact in England through a series of visitations. These visitations were conducted by the Cluniac superiors, who would travel to different monasteries to inspect their operations and ensure that the monks were following the rules and regulations of the order. The book provides a detailed account of these visitations, including the reports and findings of the superiors, as well as the responses of the monks. It also examines the social and political context in which the Cluniac order operated in England, including their relationships with the king and other powerful figures. Overall, Visitations of English Cluniac Foundations offers a fascinating insight into the world of medieval monasticism and the role of the Cluniac order in shaping religious and political life in England. It is a valuable resource for historians, scholars, and anyone interested in the history of Christianity and medieval Europe. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
