Each chapter follows the same structure: what the organ is, what it does, how to keep it healthy, and one strange but true fact that will make you look at your own body differently. The brain that cleans itself during sleep. The liver that can regenerate from a quarter of its original mass. The skin that replaces itself completely every few weeks. The heart that beats forty million times a year and asks for nothing in return.
The writing is accessible, honest, and occasionally funny. The author is not a doctor - she says so herself, in the preface, with complete sincerity. The illustrations are extraordinary.
