In the winter of 1863 - 1864 while the Civil War raged in the east, it is an historical fact that a group of miners and businessmen In Virginia City, Montana Territory formed a Vigilante Committee and began to put Sheriff Henry Plummer's gang of so-called Innocents out of business. They hung 27 of them in January and February 1864. Still, there were a lot more than twenty-seven outlaws in the gang; what happened to the others? Undoubtedly some fled the Alder Gulch/Virginia City area, but not all of them.
