The Vice President is elected by the National Assembly of Mauritius for term of five years. He or she is second to the head of state and also is responsible for covering the President's work and duties in case of incapability. He is appointed by The President after being elected in the parliamentary vote. The Vice President nevertheless cannot succeed to the President in case of dismissal, resignation or death of the Head of state in office but he can be nominated by the parliament to succeed to the President and eventually, his term will start for a full mandate of 5 years starting from when taking office.
