The poetry and prose of Ventilations tackle the familiar and painful, revisit the hysterical, and celebrate the very sensual experiences that many people, particularly women, have faced. The pieces run the spectrum, from the youthful and naïve, to the seasoned and wise. Hopefully, folks of all colors, shapes, and walks of life will find elements of Ventilations both appealing and reminiscent.
Brooks initiates very personal conversations about life, as seen through the lens of varied women, then chimes in with pensive, sometimes painful, and other times, hilarious anecdotes through poetic verse.
The content of this book is divided into different segments of contemplation, like self-identity, family secrets, woman and man, makes me wanna scream!, and others. Brooks' collection is truly meant to be read aloud among friends or performed on a stage.
Ventilations is just the right prescription and conversation piece for one's book club!
