Eight-year-old Vladdy Dracul has a problem that would make any vampire family faint: he thinks drinking blood is absolutely disgusting. While his parents show off their fancy new Artery-O-Matic 9000 to the vampire elders, Vladdy is secretly gagging at the thought of traditional vampire nutrition.
Starting at Monster Elementary, Vladdy discovers he's not the only misfit monster around. There's Chip the Cookie King, who wants to be a villain but is too nice. Betty the Mummy, who's more worried about safety than scaring people. And Flush Gordon, a toilet monster who'd rather clean than terrorize. Together with his sarcastic fruit bat Berry and the anxious jack-o'-lantern Jackie, Vladdy learns that being different might not be so bad after all.
But when the vampire community demands he participate in the traditional First Blood ceremony, Vladdy must choose between fitting in and staying true to himself. Can one young vampire find a way to honor his heritage while following his conscience?
