Entre el caos y la desesperación, apareció un llamado: la lucha olÃmpica. El tapiz se convirtió en su altar. La disciplina, en su oración. Y cada entrenamiento, en una nueva oportunidad para volver a creer. Transformó el dolor en fuerza, la rabia en enfoque y el miedo en determinación, hasta convertirse en uno de los atletas más respetados de Puerto Rico.
Llegó a ser el atleta de deportes de combate más condecorado en la historia de competencias internacionales, representando a Puerto Rico en Juegos Centroamericanos, Juegos Panamericanos y campeonatos alrededor del mundo. Incluso, después de enfrentar dos cirugÃas que le dejaron una condición cardÃaca, regresó al combate. Volvió al tapiz. Y una vez más, venció.
Pero sus mayores triunfos no ocurrieron frente al público ni bajo las luces de la arena. Ocurrieron en silencio. Reconstruyó su vida, se mantuvo firme y libre de adicciones por más de treinta años, y persiguió la educación como un acto de fe. Obtuvo grados universitarios, maestrÃa y doctorado, y desde el salón de clases y la investigación, dedicó su vida a levantar a otros.
