The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is investing $3.3 million into the Partnership for Land Use Science (Forest-PLUS) program. This technical assistance program aims to reduce emissions and enhance carbon sequestration by taking Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+) activities to scale. Forest-PLUS will support the Ministry of Environment and Forests with climate change mitigation interventions that emphasize science and technology. The program focuses on scientific collaboration in forest carbon inventory and monitoring, field testing of new carbon accounting methodologies and ecosystem management, and designing methods to provide better incentives to forest-dependent communities to improve forest management and conservation. This program will generate additional benefits such as biodiversity conservation, enhancing livelihoods, and helping ecosystems and communities adapt to climate change. The program will directly support India's Green India Mission under the National Action Plan on Climate Change.
