Babloo has been told to wait. The treehouse in his garden is not finished. One missing plank, one loose ladder, and Sunny Sahib's hammer still tapping away. Waiting, it turns out, is the hardest game of all.
When Pappu, Chiku and Bunty come over to play, the afternoon belongs to tag, to Doctor Rosie's biscuits and juice, and to the tock-tock-tock of a treehouse going up under the branches. Babloo asks his father whether he and his friends can climb it. Not yet, says Abbu. It is not finished, and you could get hurt. But the ladder is right there, and nobody is looking, so Babloo slips away and climbs anyway. Moments later he is hanging from a branch, calling for help, and his friends come running.
What follows is not a scolding. It is Babloo working out on his own, what his father's rule was actually for.
Babloo Ki Shararat is the third story in the Pappu Panda series by Sufia Nasir. It is a full-colour picture book of roughly 330 words, set in Nastaliq script and read right to left, built from narration boxes and speech bubbles that make it a natural two-voice read-aloud. It was written in Urdu from the start, in ordinary spoken Urdu. It is not a translation, and it is not a vocabulary list.
The values sit inside the story rather than on top of it: listening to a parent, honesty in play, owning a mistake, and saying sorry out loud. The same friends who rescue Babloo are the ones who tell him plainly that climbing a tree during tag is cheating. Nobody delivers a lesson. It simply happens, the way it happens in a real garden on a real afternoon.
Written for children ages 3 to 7, preschool through grade 2, and for the adult reading beside them. Families who speak Urdu at home, and families teaching it to a second generation, will recognise every voice in it.
