From Greenwood in 1921 to Rosewood in 1923, entire Black communities were burned to ash. Homes looted. Families slaughtered. Bodies dumped in unmarked graves. And the killers? White mobs-neighbors, police, even elected officials-driven by hate and protected by silence.And these weren't rare. There were more than 200 massacres just like them, from 1810 to the present. Not skirmishes. Not riots. Massacres. Deliberate, organized acts of racial terror. And that doesn't count the mass lynchings, the drownings, the night riders, or the atrocities inflicted on Indigenous and Afro-Indigenous people.
History books won't tell you this. They weren't written to. America has buried these stories for over a century, building a national myth that paints white people as the heroes of every tale... no matter the blood on their hands.
