Life is filled with unexpected events. How true. We plan for the future and live our lives anticipating what we think will happen. Then the unexpected occurs. Unforeseen events intrude and disrupt our plans. Things turn out differently from anything we imagined, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. We are humbled when we discover the limits of our ability to foresee the future. But whether for good or for bad, unexpected events make it certain that life will always be interesting. The same is true for short stories. Unexpected events produce reactions in characters that we recognize from our own experiences. We imagine what we would do if we encountered the same surprise occurrences. A good short story can remind us of who we are or teach us something new about ourselves. Or it may just make us glad that the events depicted didn't happen to us. Told with humor, irony and a touch of social commentary, the stories in this collection tell of modern day situations that are sure to entertain.
