The Mystery
Walk through some of these crop circles and you'll notice something unusual beneath your feet. The soil is different. It is harder. It is drier. It is as if it has been baked in an oven. Hit it with your hands. it will fall apart.
Scientists discovered this phenomenon while investigating formations in the 1990s. They brought soil testing equipment into fresh circles. Temperature readings showed the ground was warmer than surrounding fields. Not by a little. Some measurements showed soil temperatures 10 to 15 degrees higher than areas just outside the formation.
The Theories
One theory was that the microwave radiation affected the soil by heating it from above. This is because microwave radiation has a penetration power of several inches in materials containing water. As such, moist soil would be heated throughout and not just on the surface. In addition, the microwave radiation could be generated by natural events in the atmosphere such as ball lightning or plasma vortices. When these occurrences come to ground, they could produce strong pulses of microwave radiation in excess of several seconds...
