The Mystery
July 2, 1937. Somewhere over the Pacific Ocean, the most famous female pilot in the world vanished.
Amelia Earhart wasn't just any aviator. She was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Magazines put her on their covers. Kids wanted to be her. She had already done the impossible once. Now she was attempting something even bigger - flying all the way around the entire Earth.
She never made it.
Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, were somewhere near a tiny island called Howland Island when radio contact cut out. No mayday call. No wreckage. No bodies. Just silence. The U.S. Navy launched the biggest air and sea search in history at that point. They found nothing.
Amelia Earhart was 39 years old. She was gone.
