The state of Maine, known for more than 3000 miles of coastline and over 17 million acres of forested land, also brings in over $7 Billion in annual tourist spending.
The term Vacationland began appearing on Maine license plates in 1936 as an homage to the millions of yearly visitors that continue to this day. However, thousands of Mainers have reported a different kind of visitor to their home state.
