If you have read my book, Powerless? - then you know there are issues with the twelve steps as they are written. Nonetheless, the steps have value - especially for those new to recovery. Bringing people in from the cold is the steps' greatest strength. Their greatest weakness? Long-term, they only work for 5-10% of those who participate in recovery programs based on them. This book compares each of the traditional twelve steps with a revised version. They were revised in the hope more people will successfully move from addiction to recovery, and ultimately, to freedom. This revised version of the twelve steps also fully supports the core principles of the My Recovery Community - a powerful new approach to recovery from addictive behavior, both for addicts and the people who love them. Community members who want to make working the steps part of their recovery can choose to work the traditional steps, or this version, which is compatible with our community's beliefs, principles, and methods. You are not powerless over your addiction - and we will not rob you of your power of choice by telling you what to do. Instead, we ask: What do you want to do?Once an addict always an addict? Not so. Full freedom is not only possible - it is God's desire.Relapse doesn't mean you turn in your sobriety chips and start over. Relapse reveals areas where we still need healing.Curious?
