Tolly the Turtle: A Heart Big Enough for Two Islands is a heartfelt children's picture book about love, family, change, and learning to feel safe when home no longer looks the way it once did.
Tolly is a cheerful little turtle who loves life with Mom and Dad on their beautiful Caribbean island. But after one big storm changes everything, Tolly suddenly finds herself living between two homes. Confused and worried, she begins to feel as though she must choose between the two people she loves most.
With the gentle guidance of Wise Old Ray, the friendship of Spotty, and a thoughtful Plan for Peace, Tolly begins to understand that love does not have to be divided. Her heart is big enough for both homes, both parents, and all the feelings that come with change.
Through Tolly's journey, young readers are introduced to important ideas such as family separation, shared homes, changing routines, big emotions, communication, reassurance, and healthy coping skills. The story encourages children to express how they feel, ask questions, and understand that they can continue to feel loved and connected even when family life changes.
Set against a warm and colorful Caribbean backdrop, Tolly the Turtle offers a comforting and age-appropriate way to talk about difficult family transitions without placing blame or asking children to take sides.
Perfect for parents, caregivers, teachers, counselors, and families navigating separation or two-home living, the book also includes a coloring activity, thoughtful discussion questions, and practical ideas to help adults continue the conversation after the story ends.
Gentle, reassuring, and full of heart, Tolly the Turtle: A Heart Big Enough for Two Islands reminds every child that families may change and homes may look different, but love can remain strong, safe, and big enough for everyone.
