John Bayer heads to Europe in 1918, prepared to fight for his country. After the war, he plans to return home, marry Rose Austin, and begin working as a lawyer in their small Nebraska town. When he arrives in France, he falls for a beautiful cook named Margrit. Unsure if his feelings for her are genuine, he struggles with his decision to stay with her when the war ends. Fate steps in when John is sent on a dangerous mission inside a German POW camp where he may not survive the murderous inmates.Nearly thirty years later, John returns to Europe as part of a team investigating Nazi atrocities. His Jewish heritage makes this journey difficult, but what he finds in Germany forces him to face the choices he made as a young man.In his debut novel, author Robert Farnsworth weaves a heartbreaking tale of love, loss, and redemption across two continents and both World Wars.
