Evocative poems rooted in rural England, exploring memory, nature, and the beauty of everyday life.
Alison Brackenbury's Thorpeness offers a richly circumstantial collection of poems, deeply connected to the rural world and provincial towns of England. These poems sustain communities, preserving a strong sense of their history and the gifts it provides. From the delicious surprises of 'Aunt Margaret's Pudding'--inspired by a Lincolnshire shepherd's wife's Edwardian recipes--to vivid depictions of birds, plants, and weathers, Brackenbury's verse brings the natural world to life.
These poems also nurture, reflecting on family, memory, and the impact of the past. For readers who appreciate reflective and evocative verse, Thorpeness belongs in the tradition of rural and provincial poets, renewing England's landscapes and rhythms. Discover a familiar radio voice performing her own poems and narrating the stories of the land.
