The writer Jak and his estranged wife Marja, a successful lawyer, have not seen their dahghter Cora for years. They all meet in Johannesburg, South Africa, to visit Cora's village, where she lives as an aid worker. Cora has organized the trip with the help of her friend, a bush pilot. They use his four seater Cessna for the flight which ends in an accident in the middle of nowhere. The pilot dies in the crash, Jak is severely wounded. In trying to save his life the two women and Jak have to come to grips with their past.
