The Wibelungen is a four-part opera written by the German composer Richard Wagner. It is based on a medieval German epic poem called Nibelungenlied and tells the story of Siegfried, a hero who slays a dragon and wins the love of the beautiful Valkyrie, Br�����nnhilde. However, their love is doomed as Siegfried is betrayed and killed by his own half-brother, Hagen. Br�����nnhilde, consumed by grief and anger, sets fire to Siegfried's funeral pyre and throws herself into the flames. The opera explores themes of love, betrayal, and the destructive power of greed and revenge. With its grand orchestration and powerful vocal performances, The Wibelungen is considered one of the greatest operas of all time.The World-ruler recognised from whence his deepest wound had come, and who it was that cried his world-plan final halt. It was the spirit of free Manhood loosed from the nature-soil of race, that had faced him in this Lombard Bond. He made short work of both the older foes: to the High-priest he gave his hand, --he fell with crushing force upon the selfish Guelphs; and so, once more arrived at summit of his power and undisputed might, --he spake the Lombards free, and struck with them a lasting peace.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
