The Van Cliburn Legend is a biography of the renowned pianist Van Cliburn, written by Abram Chasins. The book chronicles Cliburn's life from his early childhood in Texas to his rise as a world-famous musician. Chasins delves into Cliburn's musical education, his early successes in competitions, and his breakthrough win at the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow in 1958, which made him an overnight sensation and a symbol of American cultural diplomacy during the Cold War. The book also explores Cliburn's personal life, including his relationships with family, friends, and colleagues, as well as his struggles with stage fright and his decision to retire from performing in the 1970s. Throughout the book, Chasins provides insights into Cliburn's artistry and musical interpretations, and offers a vivid portrait of the man behind the legend. The Van Cliburn Legend is a must-read for anyone interested in classical music, piano performance, or the life of one of the most celebrated musicians of the 20th century. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
