In an occupied Britain where the Continental Reich has ruled for a century, history is not remembered - it is issued. Mara Venn spends her days at the Ministry of Continuity, cleaning inconvenient noise out of the official record: a scratch here, a stray word there, one crackling second of a governor's real voice sanded down to silence.
Then she finds the minute that was supposed to disappear completely.
What Mara does next pulls her out of the archive and into the Listeners, an underground network that has spent decades hiding the names, testimonies and banned recordings the regime erased - and into a plan to put the unedited truth on air, once, before the state can stop it. It also pulls in the people she loves least safely: a niece drifting toward the wrong protection, and an administrator who has spent his career believing the record he keeps is mercy.
The Unrecorded Morning is a novel about what a society does with the parts of its past it would rather file away - and what it costs the people whose job is to remember anyway.
For readers of quiet, character-driven alternate history where the resistance runs on paperwork, testimony and nerve rather than gunfire.
