The Turnstile is a novel written by A. E. W. Mason and published in 1912. The story is set in the early 20th century and follows the life of Dick Gurvil, a young man who is the son of a wealthy businessman. Despite his privileged upbringing, Dick is restless and yearns for adventure, which he finds when he meets a group of bohemian artists and writers.Dick becomes enamored with the creative lifestyle and begins to spend more and more time with his new friends, much to the chagrin of his family. As he becomes more involved in the artistic community, Dick also falls in love with a young woman named Mary Lavenham. However, their relationship is complicated by the fact that Mary is engaged to another man. Despite this, Dick and Mary continue to see each other and their love for each other grows stronger. The novel explores themes of love, art, and social class, as well as the struggle between conformity and individualism. It is a poignant and thought-provoking tale that captures the spirit of the early 20th century and the changing attitudes of its time. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
