What if you knew exactly who you wanted to be... but everyone else saw something completely different?
There once was a tiger with a rather unusual problem.
He was absolutely, positively certain he was supposed to be a lion.
There was just one small complication.
The stripes.
No matter how many times the monkeys stare, the parrots question him, or the other animals point out the obvious, this determined little tiger refuses to give up. Lions are strong. Lions are magnificent. And somewhere inside, he is convinced there must be a lion hiding beneath all that orange and black.
So when the jungle animals point out one particularly important thing he's missing, a mane, he decides to make one himself.
With vines, feathers, and dew-dipped leaves, the little tiger proudly sets out to prove once and for all that he can become the lion he believes he should be.
But pretending to be someone else turns out to be a lot harder than he imagined.
Funny, tender, and filled with personality, The Striped Lion is a simple and beautifully illustrated story about identity, belonging, confidence, and discovering that the qualities we admire in others may already exist inside us.
At its heart is a simple message for every child who has ever wondered whether they needed to change in order to fit in:
You don't have to become someone else to be brave, strong, magnificent, or worthy of belonging.
With playful jungle characters, memorable illustrations, gentle humor, and a heartfelt story made for reading aloud, The Striped Lion is a picture book children will enjoy for the journey, and parents will love for the message underneath it.
Perfect for bedtime, story time, classrooms, and little readers learning one of life's biggest lessons:
Sometimes becoming who you want to be begins with discovering how wonderful you already are
