Amidst rationing for the war effort, her brother enlisting, and the fight for women's suffrage, eighteen-year-old Giorgie is confined to her father's vineyard and the family business.

Forever in pain from Post-Polio Syndrome, she pushes herself to rise each morning. Everyone around Giorgie is getting married and starting their lives, but having babies goes against what the doctors say is best, not to mention her mother's dying wish.

Even so, one morning in the Strip District, she meets a strange Russian man who suddenly comes to live with her.

When catastrophic loss upon loss calls at her father's vineyard, Giorgie will need her new-found strength to protect what is left after the Spanish Influenza.

Set in 1918, The Springhouse is a coming-of-age tale about the strength of love in the face of pandemic disease and the courage to keep living when all hope seems lost.
