This Brown Girl, Dr. Yolanda Nieves, sings of Spirit in these poetic pieces. She sings of a life of dichotomies - a life froth with painful memories that lie dormant, ready to erupt at any given moment in any number of ways. These memories wrestle with harmonies of Hope and Faith that actively convey a melody of Truth - that we are all God's children woven together like the roots of a baobab tree netted into the earth - free to grow, free to expand life, free to give to the world who we truly are.
Sarah E. Howard, Ed.D., L.P.C. In her second collection of poetry, Yolanda Nieves takes us on a musical, rhythmic, spoken-word ride reaffirming her talent as a poet of the new millennium. Her carefully crafted pieces give voice to neighborhood boys, ex-lovers, and varicose veins with lyrical words that sing rather than speak, illustrating both the simplicity and complexity of life. A superb follow-up to Dove Over Clouds.
