The Redford family travel to a relative's farm for a long weekend in wild country near the Snowy Mountains. From the moment they arrive the three children - the storyteller, 12-year-old Kim and her brothers Tony, 14 and Joe, 9 - are caught up in a mystery with danger around every bend in the bush track. What is waiting in Uncle Tom's cabin? Who are the strange 'Dancing Men'? What is so amazing about Rocky Ridge on the edge of the National Park? Each day brings a new puzzle and challenge. They meet Luke, a local Aboriginal boy who joins them in solving the mysteries and opens a new world for them. Their faithful collie dog Whisky defends them against the desperate people who are also tracking down the amazing secret of the forest. And it's hot; the bushfire season is about to explode around them... This third book in Wendy Macklin's 'Secret' series is another thrilling, nail-biting narrative which will have young readers excitedly turning the pages to find out what happens next. Teachers will love to read the book to their classes as a serial. The themes will prompt much discussion on contemporary environmental issues and on the way Australians - indigenous and newcomers - live today and how different it was in the old days long ago.
