As a reaction to the sexual domination of a young female in Fifty Shades of Grey, I wanted to tell a new story, one that is representative of the changing roles of men and women in American society. It is the story of a successful, middle-aged woman, Catherine, who uses sexual domination of men to alleviate her repressed anger at the males who once controlled her life. The main character begins to find her inner strength after her wealthy husband dies, and she quits her job as an overworked and underappreciated lawyer. She meets a physical trainer who recruits her into a private sex club. At first Catherine enjoys the control that she feels as a dominatrix, and she likes how men are pleasing her instead of the other way around. Eventually, however, the normally cautious and thoughtful woman realizes that she is engaging in dangerous behavior and yearns for meaningful communication with men. Is the new self-confidence she feels worth the risk?
