The Roman: A Dramatic Poem is a work of literature by Sydney Yendys, first published in 1850. The poem is set in ancient Rome and tells the story of a Roman soldier named Marcus who falls in love with a woman named Julia. However, their love is forbidden as Julia is already betrothed to another man. The poem explores themes of love, duty, and honor as Marcus struggles with his feelings for Julia and his loyalty to his country. The Roman is written in dramatic verse, with a focus on vivid imagery and emotional intensity. Yendys was a pseudonym used by the author, whose real identity is unknown. The Roman is considered a notable work of Victorian literature and is still studied and analyzed by scholars today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
