The Rochester Subway existed in the Upstate New York city from 1927 to 1956, but it had a life beyond its mission to provide daily transportation to the city's residents. Most recently it became a gathering place for the homeless and for the city's graffiti artists, and hosted regular visitors who came to see the unusual art gallery that sprang up inside one tunnel. Now sealed from any further public patronage, these photos capture one of the city's most unusual treasures, now forbidden to visit.
