The Post Office: A Play by Rabindranath Tagore

Precariously perched between Life and Death, the subliminal volcanic story about sick, little Amal, catapulted Dak Ghar (1912) by Rabindranath Tagore to many nations and captured the hearts of millions who felt its power through theatre productions, readings and multi-genre productions. In this provocative and quirky translation, which was performed in Toronto's Berkeley Street Theatre, for a month, by the Canadian Pleiades Group, Julie Banerjee Mehta captures the child's imagination by expanding the scope of mind travel, using more trendy language, commensurate with the times, and encapsulating the cultural ethos of Bengal in her dialogues between Amal and the other characters. This translation won her the title of being one of the sixteen most influential South Asians in Canada.
