The Plain Sister is a novel written by Demetrios Bikelas. It tells the story of two sisters, Eleni and Maro, who are very different from each other. Eleni is beautiful, charming, and outgoing, while Maro is plain, shy, and introverted. Despite their differences, the sisters are very close and have a strong bond. The story takes place in Greece in the late 19th century. Eleni is courted by many suitors, but she falls in love with a wealthy man named Andreas. Maro, on the other hand, is content with her simple life and has no interest in marriage. However, when Andreas meets Maro, he is struck by her inner beauty and falls in love with her. Eleni, who is jealous of her sister's newfound attention, tries to sabotage their relationship. As the story unfolds, the sisters' relationship becomes strained, and they struggle to reconcile their differences. The Plain Sister explores themes of jealousy, sibling rivalry, and the importance of inner beauty.Overall, The Plain Sister is a timeless tale that delves into the complexities of human relationships and the power of love and forgiveness. The judge stopped in surprise. He had heard of the old gentleman's temper, but had not imagined that anger could raise to such a pitch a voice usually so calm and dignified. He was alarmed and was trying to slip away unseen, when Mr. Mitrophanis interrupted the discussion and called out to him from the depths of the warehouse. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
