The Myopes is a novel written by Marmaduke William Pickthall and first published in 1907. The story is set in the fictional village of Wolding, England, and follows the lives of its inhabitants, particularly the Myopes, a family of four siblings who struggle to find their place in society. The eldest Myope, Richard, is a talented artist who is disdained by his family for his lack of practicality. His sister, Mary, is a headstrong and independent woman who clashes with the traditional expectations placed upon her. The younger Myope brothers, Tom and George, are both struggling to find their own paths in life. As the story progresses, the Myopes are confronted with various challenges and conflicts, including family secrets, romantic entanglements, and societal pressures. Through their struggles, they come to realize the importance of staying true to themselves and finding their own happiness, even if it means going against the expectations of those around them. The Myopes is a poignant and insightful examination of family dynamics, societal expectations, and the struggle to find one's place in the world. Pickthall's rich and evocative prose captures the essence of rural England at the turn of the 20th century, and his complex and nuanced characters resonate with readers to this day. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
