A work of current-day historical fiction, The Morning After the Morning After occurs during 2021-2022 as, faced with their own individual life challenges, the Matters family must also adjust to living in a time of political unrest, welcome an influx of immigrants, and cope with the effects of climate change. As their family life returns to normal, Hurricane Ida, the end of the Afghanistan War, the storming of the Capitol, the formation of the January 6 Committee, and the invasion of Ukraine occur amidst a pervasive awareness of the effects of climate change. This historically accurate work of fiction depicts a politically volatile time as the Matters family, their neighbors, and schoolmates adjust to the COVID pandemic, an influx of immigrants from Afghanistan, and the effects of climate change.
