Compelling, character-driven fiction of undying love, choronicling 50 years in the life of Kate, a passionate woman with an addictive personality. Beginning in 1941, several months before the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Kate's safe, cloistered life is forever changed, the fourth and fifth USS Lexington aircraft carriers and a Mizpah Coin being crucial components. As she struggles to cope through the dramatic twists and turns of her life, her thoughts and emotions are intimately detailed, as if stolen from her personal diary. She eventually spirals into substance abuse and wild adventures with a jazz musician, revealing a provocatively voyeuristic peek into a hedonistic lifestyle most can only imagine. Kate's self destructiveness eventually leads her to a harrowing life on the streets, resulting in introspection, insightful self revelations, and a poignantly unforgettable reunion. From the intriguing prologue, to the thought-provoking epilogue, those who favor meaty, sometimes gritty, fast-paced prose will find The Mizpah Coin an enthralling read.
